The Maltipoo Breed
The Maltipoo hybrid resulting from breeding a Maltese and a Toy Poodle, was created for the specific purpose of being a small and affectionate companion. This hybrid is hypoallergenic, doesn’t shed and is quite trainable. This soft and cuddly bundle of love generally weighs in from 5 to 15 pounds and, if it doesn’t warm the heart of anyone in close proximity, they must not have one! This adorable and cuddly hybrid is not only affectionate but also gentle, lively and energetic, intelligent and loyal and will make an amazing (did I say cuddly?) addition to your home (and probably to your lap as well).
Your Malti-Poo hybrid is a mix of the Maltese and the Toy Poodle and can take on the temperament traits of one or both of the parent breeds. Owners and breeders of this cute and cuddly hybrid have described it as affectionate, alert, energetic, gentle, intelligent, lively and loving. Your hybrid pet will likely spend hours in his favorite resting place — your lap! But don’t be fooled…this little one can also play for hours at the drop of a hat (or ball or toy) when the opportunity arises. Your hybrid pet will love to chase that ball or toy across the living room for hours if you’re willing to participate. He will get along well with older children but close supervision when playing with small children is recommended to prevent unintentional injuries which can accompany play with this age group. He will likely get along well with the family cat, too, but, when it comes to children and other animals, it is recommended that socialization be done as early in your pet’s life as possible to avoid future issues.
Your hybrid Malti-Poo will get along well with strangers but may be loud, as in barking, when they’re afoot. Your hybrid pet is very intelligent and sensitive and. as such, will be easily trained provided positive training methods are employed. He won’t respond well to yelling and harsh words, shutting down and cowering under these circumstances. He is an energetic little dog but that doesn’t necessarily mean lots of long walks to keep him fit and healthy.
